1600 GRT Ocean to Master AGT Inland 46 CFR 10.402(b) and (c)

Master 1600 GT Upon Oceans or Near Coastal Waters To Master Any GT Upon Inland Waters. Mariners holding a license as Master 1600 GT Oceans or Near Coastal may apply for a Master Any GT Inland license utilizing 46 CFR 10.435. A tonnage limitation will be placed on the Inland license as per 46 CFR 10.402(b) and ©. Mariners may remove the tonnage limitation on the Inland license by serving one year on vessels over 1600 GT.

Has anyone done this? What modules do you have to test for to get the Master AGT inland? I hope to do this, so any advise on this route to obtain this license would be helpful. What is the lowest tonnage limitation you can have on a Master AGT inland?

46 CFR 10.402(b) and © should explain it, just like the CFR citation you provided said it would.

So where can I find the exam module code for this cross over? Limitation of tonnage starts at 1,000?

Deck and engineering exam guide. Don’t know tonnage specifics, you have to look it up.

The lowest tonnage limitation will be 2000 GRT. They round up from your current 1600 in increments of 1000… You may get more. Lapware may show the typically required module numbers. Certainly your approval letter will.

Call NMC!!!

They have answered all my questions without an attitude.

Most folks cant interpret the CFR’s due to all the different backgrounds available in the marine industry. I’m surprised you haven’t been told its crystal clear yet and beat with a tree trunk. LOL!!!

I did it. I didn’t need to wait as I had 3 years of Piloting on the Thames River (NLON/Groton). Roughly 60 days after I sat my 1600NC I sat the AGT. A colleague that had to wait the year was required to sit the full battery of modules, seven (7) I think.

You take the full test. The lowest tonnage increment is 2,000 GRT.
