$1 Million, 85ft Yacht Capsizes After Launching

The outside of the 85 ft yacht looks fine. But a brand new yatch that size for just a million bucks should have been a red flag.

Watched the vid, read the story, came away with uneasy feeling. Has anybody found an independent source that verifies this story?

Cheers,

I hear that the Captain wanted a rotational position!

I don’t know if these are independent but here’s 2 other outlets each with slightly more details. That first article said $1 million which is hard to believe. The propulsion, drive & power plant alone should have been a million dollars?

Wouldn’t trust this site too much, but the USP being marketed seems to be “shallow draft, suitable for reef exploration”.

Being a bit more generous, keelwise, might have been a good idea😎

Who launches an 85’ yacht into the open sea without a tug or chase boat in attendance? Even if the engine, etc were installed and somehow tested, its brand new - will it start & run reliably?

The funniest thing I read was a news report saying that the yacht sank due to a “stability issue”.

Isn’t that rather common among sinking vessels?

Makes sense, likely not any fuel, stores, or ballast aboard a top heavy vessel with poor from stability at the time of launching.

It’s very reminiscent of the Brandon launch in Anacortes, Wa. USA in 2014.

NTSB Report

“We can save a bunch of money by eliminating a lot of the ballast. These fair-weather sailors will never know the difference”.

… or save by not securing the 25tons of ballast like “Baaden” quoted above
