I find NPR to lean a little to the left, especially in their opinion programs like NPR Politics Podcast, Planet Money, etc, however their regular news programs like Morning Edition just stick to straight news. Those other programs do a fair job delving into the issues on a deeper, more articulate level then any of the TV News Channels. And I suppose if you’re passionate about it enough and want your opinion heard, go ahead and start your own local public radio affiliate.
Well, me too, but I think regular exposure to people politely calling you an asshole is a good way to avoid becoming one of those sorry individuals who think everyone who disagrees with them have been brainwashed by Fox News.
And they’re well done programs.
I used to listen to NPR often. I threw out our television 19 years ago but still wanted to keep in touch with what was going on so I would listen to NPR on the radio. I could keep working on whatever project I was working with one ear on the radio. Then it evolved to the “Gay Race” station. Unless its the BBC news hour or one of the weekend programs all their subject matter is gay or race related. I play a game in the car hitting the NPR preset then hitting it to something else if either topic comes up. Usually within thirty seconds I am off to another channel. Try it for yourself.
That is my experience with NPR too. Their reporting is factual, and not outrage -based. But it tends to LGBT issues nowadays, something I have no interest in, so I rarely listen to to it nowadays. Also, as was pointed out above, the rise of podcasts means the same reporters I came to trust on NPR have podcasts on subjects that do interest me, so lately I listen to these instead. (Example, the “Ghost Cattle” podcast, about farming in Eastern Washington).
One thing I do admire about NPR is that they stopped doing op-ed pieces on their main platform. You can find op-ed podcasts on a station that carries NPR, but (unless things have changed since I stopped listening) they haven’t been found on the main news show for many years now.
Why should it not be featured by a major news outlet, especially since the news media willing to report on Communist-America are disappearing and being deplatformed at a rapid rate, much to the liking of the leftist globalist Marxist scum.
Funny the pathetic left totally indoctrinated by the entertainment industry, news media, academia, the entire public school system, the judiciary, conventional TV series, major motion pictures and the so called journalistic staffs self described as Marxist/ Progressive/ Leftists would be clueless that one or two media outlets marginally “conservative” news outlets would feasibly have the gravitas and encompassing capacity to employ the techniqies of brainwashing which require a near total isolation of members from family, friends and associates as in classic cult modus operandi. Are they simply repeating an absurd fantasy and ignoring that the brainwashing-indoctrination is so obviously eminating from the left, they have gone total “Stalinist” in their perspective?
The Democrat-Communist party’s central platform is based on 100% lies as Lenin repeatedly taught the left to embrace. Joseph Goebbels and other Nazis were bascially Marxists and Scoialists who mixed Nationalism as did Mussilini in his Fascist creation to create a hybrid, but essentially simply another socailist nightmare.
Spot on. This thread’s title is about “Woke infiltrating KP”. Only when you leave Fox and go to an actual news site, you find out the issue at the core of the controversy is the separation of church and state. A 250 year old issue. Nothing to do with ‘woke’. Fox just tagged ‘woke’ to the story to outrage people.
Reminds me of another thread we all had fun with last fall. Remember the “USAF ordered airmen to no longer call their parents mom-and-dad” story? There’s a link to it below. Starts about halfway through the thread. A New York Post story claimed the USAF ordered airmen to stop calling their parents mom and dad, because of “woke infiltration” in the USAF.
Heard anything about it since? Airmen complaining about it? Congressional hearings? Of course not. Because it never happened. No such orders were ever given.
Who owns the New York Post? Rupert Murdoch. And what does Rupert Murdoch, in sworn testimony, say about his employees? They lie for money. It’s not even about politics he says: “It’s not about red or blue. It’s about green.”
Outrage meth sells.
Well, I was keeping up “pretty well” on every until you delved into politics, and name calling. I assume, being some of the ones engaged in this are regulars, this is acceptable here. Not for me. Master Mariner, and retired military. I have been around… not interested. If I wanted that crap, I would go elsewhere. Not doing it here. Bye!
I use to enjoy listening to NPR. Then their afternoon reporters started greeting their colleagues " Hey Pumpernickel " rather than “Hello sliced bread”. It seemed a discourtesy and unprofessional. Plus Mom said " hay is for horses" she is still right at 90 years old.
I appreciate there is sarcasm at play here, but this statement reminded me…
I used to watch cable news until the Iraq War. Going into the war, Fox and MSNBC tried to outdo each other in advocating for it. The war was conceived and promoted by P43. The opposing party did sign on to the military action, but it was P43’s baby, top to bottom, and his party were all behind him. He stood grinning on an aircraft carrier and took full credit.
When no WMDs were found in Iraq–the pretext for the war–and it turned into an insurgency, P43 made no apologies. He just doubled-down. As did Fox and MSNBC–for awhile. Hell, French fries were cancelled. The party in power said we should call them “freedom fries”, because France refused to support the war.
I recall at the time some smart pundits predicted this would be disastrous for American democracy. Once Americans understood they had been deceived, these pundits warned, they would never trust the media again. They were right. Nowadays we live with the result.
After the war was in the rear view mirror, I noticed history was quickly re-written. According to Fox, P43 and his party weren’t Republicans. No. Never. Fox started calling them “Neocons”. A mythical secret club of evildoers, like HYDRA, or SPECTRE. And Fox conveniently forgot their own unabashed cheerleading of the war.
As for MSNBC, they just cast themselves as the anti-Fox network. A pale negative image of their rival. As if distancing themselves from their rivals could somehow erase their own guilt from their own cheerleading of a war suddenly no one wanted.
That’s when I stopped watching cable news.
The American people never came to terms with the fact that the Iraq War was a mistake. No problem. To help them forget, cable news simply distracted them by redoubling the production of outrage meth. Everyday something more outrageous was brewed up to forget the 100,000s of people and trillions of dollars wasted over a lie. And it worked. The lucrative outrage factories have never stopped, because the public is hooked.
We live with the aftermath. Large swathes of the American public, once proud supporters of the Iraq War, and of the old Grand Old Party, and of P43, now despise all three. They remade the party in their own image… They despise MSM and “facts”. Increasingly unhinged from reality, they are susceptible to demagogues who espouse QANON, election conspiracies, and all the rest. And their drug of choice?
So yes, @Meme.Lord, “generational trauma:” is not too far off the mark, I think.
Yup. Now we have a new group of people advocating for war with Russia, but it’s ok, because it’s totally a ‘just’ war this time.
Just like the last one and the one before that and the one before that and the one before that.
Maybe after a strategic nuclear exchange it will stop, but more than likely we’ll go invade someone’s cave because nobody can remember how the last one went.

Agree with you 100%. What freighters did you work on? I’m retired MEBA.
Your characterization of the two clearly shows your bias toward the Hitler wannabe. Your own published words are all the evidence a rational person needs.
Wow, just wow. You rational ? your conclusion is downright bizarre. I suppose that means I’m not getting an apology for your baseless accusations since I didn’t use Hitler In my description. Is that it? What a sad little man you are.
Once again, you have no idea who I am so please go find some other stranger to latch onto with your obsession.
Maybe this sorry slagfest needs to be locked before visitors draw negative conclusions about the participants in this forum.
To paraphrase George Prentice, “A man bitten by a mad dog is apt to get mad himself”.
Precisely. I had family members who spent time in a lifeboat after being torpedoed… Wish they were alive to contribute something- I have a very good idea that something along the lines of “let’s see how you feel about it after spending 17 or more days in a lifeboat…”
To do anything to that painting, move it- cover it- ANYTHING- is a travesty to the memory of all of the brave men and women who suffered that fate…
