Why is the NMC still so terrible?

Maybe it’s not for the guys who only have to renew every 5 years or get a med cert every 2. For everyone else who needs a new endorsement every year and a half it’s a nightmare. Writing your congressman to get a government agency to do their job is some true doofus bullshit. What the hell happened at office jobs where you read, verify, and stamp? How can you take soooo much time off at land jobs now? What are the excuses for a government agency contracting out a company that is perpetually understaffed? And at that point do they still have sovereign immunity or can a good attorney sue the shit out of em? How can the mariners organize to prompt change? This is terrible.

There’s got to be a maritime tech firm that could do a better job. MM- Seas comes to mind. I’ve been waiting for an evaluator for two months now for a simple upgrade. Can I file a claim for lost wages due to missed out promotional opportunities?

I have an attorney in the family I’m gonna contact about it. I’m just sitting at the house anyways so why not? Last time I submitted and sailed, got back home to find an error in application letter, it ended up being their bungle, and had to wait another 90 or more after resubmitting to get the endorsement. Sailors forget about that bullshit once they’re on a ship, only to experience it again later down the line. Without any love for the NMC there really does need to be some kind of push against it if they can’t fix processing times.
