As a sometimes past lurker I finally register post Fitz. A dutiful newbie, I fill out a profile. Then I begin to look for other profiles and find . . . essentially none. What’s the deal? Is the culture here anonymity? This is an honest question. A professional mariner’s forum where I submit my fairly low level credentials and experience but can’t seem to find anyone elses? Obviously I’ve missed something. Help. Please no flaming.
Had it explained. Never thought about potential employers looking here. I’m old, obsolete and happily retired. I worked in an era before HR departments searched social media websites for dirt. In fact I worked in an era before HR departments. We were in a better place then.
I wouldn’t want to explain to the company why I have time to start a thread and write several posts about Investigating the Use of the Steel Globetrotter to Draw Great Circle Tracks and yet not have time to finish payroll on time.
When they migrated everything to the new forum hosting software all the profile data was deleted. Most people probably haven’t bothered fill the info back out (if they ever bothered have it there to begin with).
It’s possible to have licenses and types of vessels worked and still remain anonymous. Then again, anyone can put anything down for licenses and experience and who’s to tell if they’re telling the truth.
