Vaccinations

My intent is not to stir the controversy pot, but to get mariners thinking about this very important subject.

With measles (and mumps, etc) on the uptick, review your immunization status with your doctor and renew immunizations for which you no longer have adequate immunity (this can be checked with a titration test).

Some organizations require vaccines for tropical diseases but I haven’t heard of any that require proof of immunity from measles, mumps, etc running around now.

Its better to simply get revaccinated for all the childhood diseases. The vaccinations are cheaper than the titiers, and onel require one visit. The immunity for childhood diseases can wear off.

Some countries and some employers also require Yellow Fever vaccination. If you are seeking work outside the US, that may be worth getting.

I had the Yellow Fever vaccination years ago. Might not be a bad idea to renew that, true.

I think Yellow fever is only good for something like 10 years.

I will likely get the whole shebang this spring, in increments. I am of that age where it would be a good idea to do so.

Yep, yellow fever is 10yrs.

I still have my old yellow shot card from my cadet years. I whip it out from time to time when I have to travel to those nasty parts of the world. . . I am up to date for now… . . .
