Just wondering - Does MMP have any Senior Engrs (CE 1E) in their membership?
What about MEBA ? Any senior officers (Cap and CM).
MEBA passes thro’ to MMP so seems like this is clearly fragmented. So what number of MASters are at MEBA.
AMO seems different and may have both.
Would be nice to know numbers based on rank just to id the frag.
I did not want to discount junior cadre but most of the obvious control is over senior management.
MMP is primarily a Deck Officer union but do have contracts with a few companies that cover the Engineers as well. Conversely the MEBA is primarily an Engineer’s union but also have top to bottom officer contracts with companies. Pass through agreements were made when the respective unions had difficulty suppling the required billets. The MEBA also has a pass-through agreement with the AMO .
The Unions will probably know exactly how many members they have and what licenses they hold.
Are you asking how many total Master jobs there are? OR How many members hold Masters licenses? OR How many MEBA members are actively sailing as Master vs not but hold a Masters license?
There’s MEBA C/m sailing as c/m but have their Masters license. There’s also a lot of ROS C/m with their Masters license that bump up to Master for activations.
Yes there are passthrough agreements between the Unions. For example, if MEBA can’t fill a deck job after a certain time, it gets sent to AMO. And if AMO can’t fill an engineering job after a certain amount of time, it gets sent to MEBA.
Membership (Licensed and ready to sail as senior cadre) - not contracts and jobs.
If unions are divied based on (Senior)Cadre , then the membership will definitely show.
I’m sure the exact totals are privately held information, and of course they vary by year. These types of organizations are too small to publish public reports on this stuff annually. Why don’t you email them and ask?
I have seen membership names but can’t tell rank from that. Email them? , lol.
Just trying to mine the info for my own metric. Curious.
From the frag
The assumption is a full contract with any one union seems absurd since one of the two (Senior)cadre is wayyyy low making pass thro’ the only option (You cannot get a senior guy out of school).
Obvious to most, some boats have separate contracts with engrs from MEBA and deck from MMP/AMO… Fragoway.
Side note :
The pass thro’ is more out of necessity and well documented.
