Ten day turn around is pretty quick from what I’ve heard about. And thats for a new card, not a renewal. I wonder why I am hearing from other people that it’s taking six to eight weeks to get a TWIC card back?
I’m still waiting on mine.I applied JAN 29 2010 i’ve called the TSA helpdesk to check on the status because it was showing that i was not yet enrolled when i checked online. the woman said it hadn’t been updated yet online and it would be about 4 weeks before getting it.
took me a year to get mine. Had to write my congressmen to get the ball rolling. When I went in to get the card in Portland the guy behind the computer was having problems with the system. Somehow he managed to double enroll me which put a hold on the card till it got cleared up. Problem was no one had the authority take the hold off or delete one of the applications. Anyway after lots of phone calls I just wrote my congressmen and a two weeks later I got my card followed by a call from a TWIC rep who seemed a little upset that he had gotten a call from someone in Congress (I must have written an awesome letter as I never expected that to work). After the wait and the hassle I just couldn’t feel sorry for the guy.
I company I worked at as a contractor last year requried each and every one of it’s employees to have a TWIC card. They made it a condition of employment. The secretarys who worked 100 miles away from the petrochemical plant were required to have one. Now if you were a contractor you were exempt, but if you were a direct hire employee they made it mandatory. Why? Because the took delivery of materials by barge at one plant of theirs on a river.
I wish it were funny but it’s not, and it was the jackboots in “Homeland Sekurity” who came up with it. If the CG invented it it would still be under review or we would have 17 different versions.
What is really creepy is that while the US redneck was all bent out out shape about the godless commies in Russia making their people carry internal passports and such anti-American, anti-freedom stuff, the patriotic freedom loving citizens of Plaquemines Parish wanted to make everyone working in the oil fields get a Parish ID card so they could keep out those who weren’t god fearing, pro-freedom, flag waving red white and blue patriots.
Sometimes it feels like mariners are the blackshirt’s favorite group for social control experiments. After all, they can manipulate us with a tiny piece of plastic that costs pennies and charge us hundreds if not thousands of dollars to comply, then destroy us with the stroke of a pen. Just like the good folks our fathers and grandfathers tried to stop a generation or two ago.
Just think about the term Homeland Security … if that doesn’t give you the creeps you haven’t read much history.
