Contracts and benefits vary and figure in also. Some also have paid travel, paid insurance, pension, upgrade courses ect. Weigh the entire package.
there is no income tax in WA, & OR has no sales tax so you make gains in other places compared to the east coast

This is lower than what I have been seeing. I have not seen any kind of mate under $450, and I know of some getting $600. But you undoubtedly have a much broader range of info than I do.
Paid travel, often door-to-door pay, and other benefits do make a big difference too. PNW companies usually provide plenty of very good food and snacks without the ridiculously small budgets and nitpicking rules about what you can buy found in other regions.
