Due to being in a union, Reinauer employees have to vote to strike (which seems to be the popular vote), but the union is dragging their feet
Ballots have been sent out, now to wait and see.
Hopefully you are more successful than the decertification vote at Moran! Good Luck Guys/Gals!
What was that Moran vote about? I am unfamiliar with this subject.
Moran Employees from the NY/NJ division gained enough votes for the NLRB to oversee a decertification vote from MMPâs AMG division. Turned into a three option vote - Stay with AMG, No Union, or join RTBU. The end result was the majority decided to stay with AMG. Purposely leaving off any opinion on that subjectâŚsmh
Some divisions of moran are non-union, right? Is it only ny/nj that are union?
I believe the NY/NJ division is the only union division, with AMG being the remanufactured, âused but goodâ remainings of Local 333.
So is there a big difference in pay between the Gulf/Florida moran to the ny/nj moran?
ATB Chief Mates and Chief Engineers are at approx $760/day in NY/NJ, with Barge Captains at approx $30 less but make the same as harbor mates and engineers. As far as all other positions, I canât remember the day rate but they pay well for the positions. Donât have an accurate figure for all other ports but I do know itâs drastically less. Maybe someone from another port could post?
RTC Employees voted 3 to 1, NO to Ratification, YES to âthe abilityâ to strike if RTC and MMP cannot come to an agreement. A meeting was scheduled for 9/23 which MMP postponed. RTC employees waitâŚ.
Glad to see MMP is working out well for those guys.
If MMP Inland in NY is anything like MMP Inland on the West Coast, the RTC employees should look into a bulk purchase of vasoline, or decertification of the union.
Why the membership keeps voting in a vice president that crossed the picket line in the 80âs is beyond meâŚsame as paying 1.5% of your gross income for nothing. With so many non-union companies allowed into NY harbor now, Bouchard a thing of the past, and Reinauer and Moran being top pay in NY Harbor alreadyâŚthere isnât much to leverage or negotiate with. Reinauer employees accepting MMPâs medical plan last contract all but created hostage employees. Good luck with your negotiations, as a cost of living adjustment is dearly needed in the Northeast.
Cost of living increases are dearly needed that recognize that tugboat mariners were grossly underpaid for decades, and that the true cost increases on the things we buy: cars, gasoline, heating oil, building materials, houses, etc. have been going up over 25% a year.
Iâm curious, what is RTCâs pay scale now?
Can you afford a decent apartment in NYC on that?
Add the 50.00 on top of that. Alot of those guys are close to retirement, alot of guys there wont make a jump, going to get the knee pads out and quietly take what the union gives them.
Is there overtime and vacation and holiday pay in top of that.
I take it Masters are âmanagementâ and not in the union contract? What are they getting?
That assistant engineer pay is LOW.
Iâve noticed a trend with New York companies regarding unlicensed engineers, this being the third contract Iâve seen now: Having that chief license doesnât give you much more a day than an unlicensed chief it seems. A job I turned down a few years ago only had a 12 dollar difference.
Why is there is such a thing as unlicensed chief on a tug? Is there an unlicensed captain?
Lots of tugs still run one man engine rooms and some companies donât require a license. So I guess the answer to your question is yes.
The irony of the contract above is an unlicensed chief makes A LOT more than an assistantâŚbut then again Iâm assuming the assistant needs to be licensed, because Iâm assuming the assistant position is on ATBs.
