Much more palatable than gas chambers.
Yes. The capital expenditure of building gas chambers, crematoria, the railroads and cattle cars to transport them would be an undue expense on the State.
Besides people spend a lot on funerals. The guests do, too. Flying in, motels, rental cars. Why should that money not be recycled back into the economy with funerals? In a lockdown those social events would be canceled and the money would stay under the mattress.
Sorry for you that you feel that way Steamer. My head is not in the sand. I do not choose to attempt to insult others that have a different opinion. The world I see is not “pleasant” at this time… Been through many crisis type things in my short lifetime. I will enjoy my TV, pet my dog, and try to go by the guidelines that are present in front of us in this very challenging environment. I made my own bed, and am comfortable to lay in it.
The UK only realised “in the last few days” that attempts to “mitigate” the impact of the coronavirus pandemic would not work, and that it needed to shift to a strategy to “suppress” the outbreak, according to a report by a team of experts who have been advising the government.
The report, published by the Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team on Monday night, found that the strategy previously being pursued by the government — dubbed “mitigation” and involving home isolation of suspect cases and their family members but not including restrictions on wider society — would “likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over”.
The new British strategy is the same as we have here in place since last week. Macron of France is on a different tack, a total lockdown has been announced as of today.
The Guinness on St Pat’s day will have to wait. Here in NZ all gatherings of more than 500 people have been cancelled, cruise ships barred and borders closed. The biggest Agricultural show in the Southern Hemisphere suspended. At this time of the year being early Autumn the calendar is pretty crowded with events. There is going to be a lot of people laid off
Lots of old people assets will be liberated as well. Put into the hands of spenders and active investors, the circle of life complete!

internally you can print it and your reserve bank will buy bonds from your retail banks hence creating money.
In the old days that created massive inflation but those economic books have all been burnt.
Hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH-20).
Mayor Bill de Blasio said he wanted hospital ships in New York to expand the city’s hospital capacity. At the moment the US has only two military hospital ships in service, the USNS Mercy is based out of San Diego California and the USNS Comfort which is based out of Norfolk, Virginia. In WWII there were 24 Army and 3 Navy hospital ships in service.
Comfort is not in a condition to do that mission right now. They’re still using portapotties (to name a few issues). More to the point, the open berthing for crew and medical staff would be a massive issue. A better choice could be to rent some out-of-work cruise ships that have semi private berthing and use them.
Yes, I agree that is indeed a much better option and more suited to modern healthcare. Moreover probably plenty of cruise ships available right now, a win win situation you might say.
You mean like the ships that have become famous as virus incubators?
The two hospital ships we have now are not suited for a quarantine mission. I’ve worked on them. Deployed on them. Not a good idea. Anything would be better than those. I’d rather be on a cruise ship with semi-private room then in open berthing/ shower/ heads, single galley, single mess.
It’s a choice between merely bad and truly awful.
It seems they plan on using the hospital ships for trauma cases and not virus cases. That’s a good idea.
“Our capabilities are focused on trauma,” Esper said at the Pentagon. “Whether it’s our field hospitals, whether it’s our hospital ships … they don’t have necessarily the segregated space as you need to deal with infectious diseases.”
Sure would be nice if the state maritime academies had their multipurpose training vessels now wouldn’t it?
Huh? To what end?
They were touted as being crisis response assets with a small onboard medical facility and of course the ability to house 500+ aid workers and transport supplies via their helo pad and small RO/RO deck.
Of course in light of the current situation, one could see them merely becoming a floating corona virus factory so
Anyone have any inside scoop on where the Mercy will be deployed? All media sources just say “somewhere on the west coast”.
Seattle and SF both have excellent layberths right downtown that would be ideal.
It seems now all countries banned travelers from any countries: https://restrictions.info/
