Time Limits

Is there a time limit on turning in your Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate to the USCG?

Yes. Five years.

I thought the school certificates were only good for a year after the class was taken.

False. Only ones from schools where you have tested for a license.

There’s no time limt on courses, unless they take the place of taking an exam at an REC (1 year), or if the CFR specifies a time limit. Advanced Fire Fighting is limited by regulation to 5 years, as are Tankerman and radar courses. The approval of a course may also have a time limit, these are either the ones stated above, or apply to a couirse given in modules, all modules may have to vbe completed within a specified time.

Time limit for FF: 46 CFR 11.205 (d) . Basic and Advanced FF must be within five years as Mr Cavo and others have said… however based on the way you asked the question, if you turn it in today and don’t apply for your first officer endorsement for six years, you’ll have to retake basic/advanced. Even if you recently took advanced, your basic has to be within the five years as well. Good luck
