The U.S./E.U. LNG Windfall

Three years ago Russia supplied the EU with LNG. Now North America does. Look at the chart below. Why are few people talking about it? Maybe some of you oil-and-gas experts can give us legit numbers on the gross/net profits for this. I saw one number suggesting we are selling $30 billion a year in LNG to the EU. Might be off one way or the other.

Even if the war stopped tomorrow the EU would likely not return to Russian LNG. They don’t want to be under Putin’s thumb again. And despite the predictions of some people three years ago, it seems Europe quickly switched their infrastructure to utilize North American LNG.

In 20 years the USA could easily profit $600 billion off a market that we had no foot in prior to 2022. Seems like a big deal to me.

Maybe this is Crowley’s play with their recent purchase of this LNG ship.

It really makes you question those “America first” people when they won’t consider impacts of this nature when arguing for or against supporting Ukraine.

By invading Ukraine, Russia has almost literally cut off the hands that feeds them.

Why wouldn’t we support Ukraine as it has the warm fuzzies and outward appearance of defending European democracy and revitalizing the bonds of NATO countries with each other; with the added silver linings of ridding ourselves of out dated military stockpiles; testing and developing new weaponry and strategies for 21st Century conflicts; and completely shifting the energy paradigm for much of 1st world Europe to the benefit of US production and export. As an added bonus both Finland and Sweden joined NATO, which never would have happened otherwise.

Whatever point Russia was trying to make by invading Ukraine in hindsight it looks worse than our ill-fated and ill-advised invasion of Iraq.

No, that’s supposed to be on some run to Puerto Rico supposedly.

Being foreign built its not Jone’s Act compliant, unless they are going to ship LNG in from other countries. Perhaps they load in the USA and sit offshore and do a transfer to an LNG ATB? It’ll be interesting what their intentions for this vessel are.

Wow . 30 years old LNG. Brand new box is it not. ?? How come collective west sewage main stream media are not complaining about it?

So will it belong to what fleet??? " Swamp or deep state fleet" ??
How can one define it ??
Is it a continuation of well known double standards -hegemon perks
or
Hipocrisy of galactic proportions .

Surely she will pass all veting inspections :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yea, it’s only the rumors I’ve heard. Frankly I’m surprised Crowley hasn’t been more vocal about it. Maybe because it’s pretty risky to reflag an old hunk of junk with people who are pretty new to the trade.

Is it a US built ship? I’m too lazy to research.

Crowley is the wrong union. Did AMO ever have LNG tankers? Still some current MEBA guys with LNG know-how/stickers.

They didn’t have any trouble finding guys with “LNG know-how/stickers”

AMO previously had an agreement with Shell to have some officers in their foreign flagged LNG carriers.

They may not be looking at reflagging to US registry, or to operate in any specific trade requiring US flag.

As shown in post # 7; according to Equasis the ship is owned by Crowley, but under operational and commercial management by Stena owned Northern Marine Management:

PS> They do have a ship management office in Houston:

They’re putting US sailors on there. Why do that and keep it foreign flag?

Wasn’t that like, 12 people? And it was certainly over a decade ago. And the folks I’ve heard that have been riding that ship were definitely not any of them.

Haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere. Is that a verifiable fact, or a rumor?

Fact.

It was for sure less than a decade ago because the program still existed when I graduated and that was less than a decade ago.

Ah. I was sort of tangentially involved in it around 2008 - I didn’t think it had gone on much longer than that.

Right on. So AMO has a group of guys that were spending some time on Shell LNG tankers?

The cargo mate and the gas engineer are probably the most critical billets anyway.

Finding experienced steam Chiefs/1ae is getting more and more difficult as the boomers finally get out of the way.

In addition to what @BeerCaptain said, they did crew the Energy Transport (LNG) Tankers for a while.
