Stena Immaculate on fire off UK

This is getting a bit far from the subject of this thread.
Here is a link to an earlier thread about the UT 704s if anybody want to continue the discussion there:

So I’m a little stumped about this event… regardless of what S. Immaculate might have theoretically done to avoid this incident (yeah, I’ve been reading the threads here), clearly the collision was caused by the actions of M/V Solong… but I’m not seeing any comments of any sort, about what went on… why did Solong not react to the impending event at all??

I mean, the captain of the ship is under arrest for manslaughter, which merely means he didn’t intentionally and with previous planning, cause the death of his sailor (and even that is applying CA state law to the definition, which may be irrelevant in a maritime event)… but I still am not seeing anything about what actually happened??

Did Solong not have radar?? Were they on autopilot while the crew had a party (I’m thinking of M/V Rena, back in 2011) ??? It seems like such an improbable event… if it was a huge ship such as USS Roosevelt, I could imaging an arrogant commander thinking that he ā€œowned the whole damned roadā€, but this was a small ship, and it just doesn’t make any sense…

Has anyone seen any interesting analysis of this situation?? I would be very interested in reviewing it…
