STCW/National Licensing Question

Hello, I know similar topics have been discussed ad nauseum but I’m struggling to find anything that directly lays out an answer to my situation. I hold a master 1600 ton license limited to NC waters and a 500-3000 master STCW endorsement. My company wants to place me on a 1700 GT vessel that does not have dual tonnage. As the STCW endorsement is limited to the restrictions of the national endorsement, where does this leave me on a vessel that does not have a domestic tonnage?

Thanks in advance!

Oh also, if one could point me to the relevant NVIC that would be great. I’m aware of the one regarding vessels with dual tonnage but my situation isn’t quite that.

I believe your 3000 would cover you @ 1700 GT but @jdcavo is the man to chime in.

Not me. You need to ask the Coast Guard’s office of commercial vessel compliance (CG-CVC). This is a manning question. My expertise is how to get the license, not what you can do with it. Unless I am absolutely positive of an answer and can cite supporting policy, I need to stay in my lane. I am not absolutely certain of the answer to this question.

Your 3,000 ITC endorsement covers you. Most modern OSVs in the US are measured under ITC only and the companies have no legal issues manning 2,996 GT boats with mariners holding 3,000 GT licenses.

Thanks for the info but it’s now a moot point as my mate has decided he’s not ready to step up so I won’t be going anywhere just yet.
