The now five-man crew of the former MS ‹‹Holmefjord›› has suddenly been sent to their respective home countries in the Caribbean, while the boat lies abandoned without supervision in Norway. This is the current status of the freighter ‹‹Gloria››, mentioned several times here in Osnytt.
Thus, the situation for the freighter, which was intended to sail all the way across the Atlantic to its hometown in the Bahamas, is uncertain.
It is certain that the boat received over 20,000 liters of extra diesel on board, which was stored in a flexible tank in the hold a short time ago - to ensure enough fuel for the return trip.
Osnytt has been aboard the boat on several occasions, which has led to a form of friendship with the now-returned crew. Among other things, we have provided the chief engineer with special light bulbs and other parts they have needed on board. Furthermore, we helped start the boat’s auxiliary engine - of all things!
But right now it seems that the ship’s fate is left to itself. At least through the winter. Because from what Osnytt understands, the departure to the Caribbean was constantly postponed in anticipation of better weather conditions along the sailing route here in Europe. This meant that a few weeks ago the trip home was decided to be postponed until spring.
Who will supervise the Gloria, if anyone during this period - or later - is not known. However, it is now known that there is also a financial side to this matter - although Osnytt has not been able to get this confirmed by the ship’s owner - namely that the crew has had difficulty getting paid their rent, and that the ongoing dock rent has not been paid for a longer period.
