Ship ran aground in Bremanger
A cargo ship ran aground in Skatestraumen in Bremanger on Wednesday afternoon. It happened after the engine stopped and the power went out.
Now the engine is running again, and the cargo ship is sailing under its own power, reports the Central Rescue Service (HRS).
The ship must have run into a rock. None of the ten people on board are injured, and the ship is not taking on water.
The ship lost engine power in a narrow area with a lot of current:
It is now followed by a tugboat to Florø for inspection, and at 19.30 it arrived. Divers will examine the ship there this evening, the shipping company says.
Ship inspectors must decide whether the ship can sail on.
HRS reported the incident at 15:33.
A lifeboat and a fishing vessel were soon in place. The fishing vessel arrived first and had a tow rope attached, but it parted.
Then the ship hit the rocks, and we just had to try to keep it calm, says boat driver Andreas Myrstad on the lifeboat Simrad Buholmen.
Shortly after, the engine started. Together with the two boats in tow, the ship managed to get away.
According to the shipping company, the cargo ship is 110 meters long. It was built in 2005.
The ship had no cargo on board and had been in Måløy to fill up with diesel. It was on its way to be loaded with gravel, before the trip was to go to Poland.
The shipping company states that the main engine stopped due to problems with the air pressure.

I really like the reporting. No drama no sensationalizing.
Ship lost power. Landed against rock. Ship got power back. Ship left rock with help. No damage to ship. Ship went back to work.
No mention of the rock but I know they have many spare rocks there.
