Ship abandoned after Red Sea attack

As a huge and dedicated fan of "Star Trek " and also impersonification of Obi Wan Kenobi i have always secretly believed in US flag ships “warp” speed capabilities.

Hugely surprised , Splash247 is serious with such revelaions. The ETA of April 1st is still remote . Beats me.

Ghost of US government ship turns up at Novorossiysk :: Lloyd’s List (lloydslist.com)

quote fm linkedin:
A US government-owned tanker has recently broadcast its location at a very unlikely place: the Russian port of Novorossiysk.

Petersburg, registered to the US Maritime Administration and formerly part of Military Sealift Command, appears to have called at the Black Sea port on February 18, according to its Automatic Identification System.

However, the 1963-built vessel was sent for scrap in 2021 in SteelCoast Recycling’s facility at the port of Brownsville. Its last piece was taken off the water the following June, suggesting its recent revival is a case of AIS manipulation, otherwise known as “spoofing”.

The practice has become part and parcel in sanctioned oil trades as vessels obfuscate their illicit activities to avoid regulatory wrath, but the case of Petersburg is perplexing as the intent is unclear.

Petersburg’s AIS data since late 2020, when it last continuously broadcast its location in Benicia, California, contains several anomalies, including a sporadic ping in December 2021 and several others between May and November last year.

Vessel tracking data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence Intelligence shows that aside from a single AIS ping caught on satellite on December 4, 2021, the ship did not broadcast an AIS signal in years — likely because it ceased to exist

Yesterday upon the stair, l saw a ship that wasn’t there,
It wasn’t there again today

It must be from the CIA

I was thinking more along the lines that; “this shows how unreliable the info found on publicly available AIS tracking sites are”
Update:
Here is another mystery vessel:

Maybe this one?:

That tally with this IMO #:

But the ABADI in Trondheimsfjorden is reported to be 174 m LOA, which does tally with a 629 DWT tanker.
More mystery; her destination is Bushehr, Iran. ETA 2023-10-13 16:30 (UTC+3.5)

Can’t be this one:

(???)

The various unapproved Chinese AIS transponders you can get off of Ebay seem to allow unlimited user reprogramming, so playing games with them is not that hard to do.

I doubt Torm buys unapproved AIS transponders on ebay:

You mean somebody in a marina in Panama and somebody else in Busan is sending out false info?
Doesn’t the AIS tracking sites have some sort of quality control?

The latest news on the Rubymar situation (see video):

PS> She is apparently no longer a “British ship” and somebody has somehow been dropped an anchor (or two)

No problem. Let the Houthis enjoy the “ecological disaster” that they have created on their own coast.

Too bad that the ship cannot be towed closer to the beach.

If the Houthis want more “ecological disasters” they know how to create them.

The upside of the “ecological disaster “ is that the oil might foul sensors on the Houthi sea drones to make them less effective.

looks like things get pretty fast during the night including ownerships change as far as British are at work doing reporting .

You surely remember the phrase abt British empire so vast , that even sun never set there. Some offered an explanation that God could not trust the British during the night. If anchor was dropped then it could mean crew did not abbandon the ship in a hurry and their action seem to be methodical and deliberate . But I can be wrong of course.

But the IDIOTS still cling to 41 000 tons of cargo. :joy:

Mine doesn’t, it passes on anything it hears.
I can be anyone I want to with a hacked AIS too, hack the NMEA feed and I can be anywhere I want to as well

I suspect the Houthis paid her a visit.

Forget about it. Ewoks, sand people , camel jockeys can not swim and do not call me racist as these " descriptions" i draw from Anglo-Saxon vocabulary of deregatory terms on indigenous people , whose lands were taken/colonised in the past. Although one must say the first two mentioned above appeared in circulation after first Star Wars movie . Quite accurate I must say. :joy:

You’re doing just fine with that all by yourself.

Well , my Dear Capt un-limited, allow me to suggest , You Sir apply equally meticulous ,scatological and unbiased scrutiny of ALL comments in this quackademia regarding “racism” and/or racist slurs and revert to me with your results and/or conclusions.

This and only this will put my mind and soul at rest so I can stay assured i am dealing with DamnYankee instead of DumbYankee. Otherwise do not knock at my doors again Sir.

Read the “rules” and act accordingly.

12 hrs ago CNBC has reported yet again Ruby is filled with 41 K t of cargo. May be the Forum Members will participate in a vote??

Her AIS reported draft before hit was 8.9 mtrs - even if true I am not sure if it was average/midship or may be her max saiing aft draft. This topic got me really fixated.

Rubymar cargo ship attacked by Houthis has sunk, Yemeni government says | Reuters

“The approximately 21,000 metric tons of ammonium phosphate sulfate fertilizer that the vessel was carrying presents an environmental risk in the Red Sea,” Centcom said, adding that the ship “also presents a subsurface impact risk to other ships transiting the busy shipping lanes of the waterway.”

I wonder how much of that cargo could be consumed in an intentional detonation ?

The environmental risk in the Red Sea seems like mostly alarmist exaggeration. It’s not our problem. It’s the Houthi’s problem. The more damage it does, the better. Maybe the Houthis will stop sinking ships.

Biden certainly isn’t going to stop the Houthis from sinking ships.

Hell yeah brother, fuck them innocent civilians that happen to be stuck living in the confines of a war zone and also those neighboring countries and fisherman just trying to make a living!
