I’ve been working on some 3D visualizations and conceptual designs using Sekai to explore maritime technology and navigation tools. I’d love to get your professional feedback on these concepts, as I’m considering including them in my university portfolio.
Here are the three projects:
1. Passage Planning Report (Mumbai to Rotterdam)
This is a visual representation of a passage planning report. I wanted to see how digital tools can streamline the traditional paper-based or static digital reports.
- Goal: To visualize the route, waypoints, and key decision points clearly.
- Question: From a professional standpoint, does this layout provide the necessary information at a glance? Is it clear enough for a Bridge Team?
2. Oceanic AI Route Planner (Concept)
This is an early concept for an AI-driven route planner. I’m still developing this across different tools, but this Sekai version shows the initial interface and data flow.
- Goal: To demonstrate how AI could integrate weather, current, and fuel data into a single visual interface.
- Question: Does this interface look intuitive? What key metrics would you expect to see on a screen like this?
3. Celestial Sight Calculator
This is my favorite project. It’s a tool designed to save time for mariners who still need to perform celestial navigation manually.
- Goal: To reduce calculation errors and time spent on manual sight reductions.
- Question: How useful would this be in a modern ECDIS-heavy environment? Is there a demand for such a tool?
I’d appreciate any honest feedback on the usability, design, and practical application of these tools. If you have suggestions on how to improve them for a professional maritime setting, please let me know!
