She has just got a new contract off South Africa:
The Ocean Star museum in Galveston has a neat little exhibit about seismic ships with a model vessel and a cut-open airgun on the first floor of the rig.
Their exhibit on tankers is a bit dated, though, with their model representing a ship that could well be a veteran of the Second World War ;p
Looks very much like a Betlehem mat supported MODU of the type that was built both in Baumont Tx. and In Singapore from late 1960s and well into the 1980s.
I got my early rig experience on this type of rigs from 1974 onwards, attending during tows and in-field rig moves, doing condition surveys, issued tow approvals for long tows and attending load-out of two of them belonging to Teledyne on barges for transport to GOM already in 1975 and 76.
I first acted MWS, later as “Tow master & Rig mover” and as Marine Manager for a drilling contractor operating rigs of this (and other) type.
