Seattle loves the Mariners, but our container ship trade goes mostly unnoticed | The Seattle Times

I always liked going to Seattle. Close to town for a container port with great restaurants.

Fun fact: In addition to the obvious homage the Seattle Mariners team name pays to Seattle’s maritime heritage, the first MLB team in Seattle, the Pilots was an homage to both the aviation industry (ie Boeing) and the Puget Sound Pilots. Dewey Soriano, co-founder/owner of that team, was himself a pilot for a bit and comes from a family of Sorianos that controlled much of the pilotage and shipping in the PNW.

The team’s logo was a ships wheel, with wings attached to the sides.

There’s a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes…
