Re: Animal Planet Whale Wars
hey, nice one trekleader, haven’t heard of de-sailing since my sailing ship days on the Sea Cloud early 1990’s; to wit:
Wealthy German Tourist: “Ach, Mr Officer, you are from Amerika, jah?”
me: “yes sir, New England.”
Wealthy German Tourist: “Ach, Ve are sailingk now, yes? vich sails do we have set?”
Me: “yes, sir we are sailing. we have set the Mains’l, lower topsl’s, upper tops’ls, t’gallents, and some headsails as well as the de-sail, which will help us work a bit to windward.”
Wealthy German Tourist: “Ach! Very Goot! It is beautiful, jah?”
omg. what good stories i have. dare not post.
was actually paid US$2500/month to sail around on that ship (Caribbean & Med). geeze.
my mind wanders…
claudia? sabine? inge? jaquelle? aysha?
where are they now…
dont waste all your youth chasing the good $$ shipping jobs. plenty of time for that later when you’re my age (46).
I sailed on her in 82 and 83 as AB-not that I would walk on any real tall ship today and claim that I was AB! My funniest memory: main deck planking was replaced in Venice leaving holes where the old planks were fastened by screws thru the metal deck, among many other problems with the work done by the locals.
Capt. Cassidy was in a passenger cabin doing some maintenance work during the first wash down of the new decking when it started raining in on him. He said it made him burst out laughing.
