Favourite ships to work on

Do you agree or disagree with this guy?:

I never listen to anyone who has their hat on backwards.

And probably uses their hand to shade their eyes.

Getting back to the original question, anytime you get more time in port the onboard tempo of work is more relaxed. (That obviously is not true for the engine department if the cause is some sort of breakdown.) When I started out if was the end of an era. All my 3rd and 2nds time was on breakbulk or bulk carrying ships. There are many fond recollections. That changed when I sailed 1st and Chief. The responsibilities were different as well as the ships. The mid and latter part of my career was primarily on containerships. It wasn’t that you couldn’t get ashore, but the opportunities were fewer. At the same time, the tone set aboard ship can make the time aboard enjoyable…or not.

:joy:

15 years or so ago working in a Korean shipyard while new build drillships were being built I had to commute on occasion. Getting on a plane and seeing ball caps speaking loud english in Inchon, Japan or Singapore going to Busan was a sign and it wasn’t a good one.

If you ever watched “The Wire” you might remember this question:

Herc: Hey kid, let me ask you something. Where do you get those hats with the bill on the side? The only hats I can find are the ones with …

Reminds me of the old story about a state trooper reporting the results of an accident investigation. He said when he arrived there were 2 victims who were having trouble breathing but he noticed their heads had been turned due to the impact which was obvious due to the position of the bills of the caps they were wearing. He turned their heads around quickly to help them breath and went to his car to call an ambulance. Sadly they were dead when the ambulance arrived

Okay, I visited the vid on YouTube & dude has a lot views, +6k thumbs up & 348 comments. From what I read, many of the comments are from adults who’s dads were merchant mariners. On YouTube I didn’t read any comments about his pants, shirt, hat or earrings. All I can figure is gcaptain forum has a lot of old salty fashionistas who know how to dress. You go old men…

Correct. However, not salty fashionistas. Cialis fashionistas.
That aside, these shipfluencers are really annoying. I happened to sail with one of the better known ones and the next time I see them, I’m turning around and walking straight back down the gangway.

Bucket hat?

How else we gonna keep our neck red? From what I understand, the term “redneck” came about as a way of recognizing the hard-working man who’s neck got red because he spent the day bent over a plow looking at a mule’s @$$. I have a Muslim friend, yes me a conservative Southern Baptist, who called me redneck. I would correct him and tell him no, I’m just country. I don’t drink beer and I’m not married to my 1st cousin.

Nobody have any “favourite ship”, or type of ships, they have worked on?
Or would like to work on?

What about “least favourite” or “worst” ships?

I guess it’s smart for those out in the fields with their heads down pulling the plow to keep the sun off their necks to fend off mallinoma. All the uppity fashionistas were making comments about this gentleman’s hat wearing preferences & for all we know he works a farm on his off time. I bet that’s it.

I was just having fun. There was a meme going around where a guy had his cap backwards with a pair of sunglasses hanging down his BACK. And using his hand to shade his eyes from the sun.

I thought putting your hand to your forehead like you’re saluting gives you the ability to see farther?
