Renew -Open book Exam Question

Renewing my 1600Ton /Master Of Towing / Oceans ( Old Dude -7th or 8th issue I forget)
Per MNC:
Application
Medical
Drug Test
Current TWIC
Current RADAR-If I want it on my license

As I do not have “documented” 360 days seatime in past 5 years:
STCW Refresher course - If I want my STCW renewed
an Open Book Exam.

Question(s)
How many Questions on the Open Book Exam?
How extensive?
Is this a Rules of the Road Exam?
Are there any other Modules I will get?

Anyone been here before?

Thanks

It’s two modules, 30 question on Rules and 50 on everything else except Nav. Problems.

Anyone with decent computer search skills can get a 100%.

I did it one time and found they did toss in a few very esoteric questions on matters which I had never encountered before and took a good while to find the right answer for. The one I remember had to do with the hydrodynamics of a turning circle and I finally found the answer to it in Robert Zubaly’s book titled “Applied Naval Architecture” which at that time (1998) was not one of the USCG’s standard references.

Just an imo, but that is an excellent work on Naval Architecture btw and well worth any maritime professional having in his or hers library.

Just went to through the process because I work on a casino vessel, I downloaded the rules of the road questions off the USCG web site and used them to take the test. I had to go to sea school to do the STCW renewal refresher. At the time the SS in Clearwater was the only one doing that training. The whole process took about 3 months but I did get all my endorsements and a few extra including OICNW.
