Some of the best craftsmanship I have seen in wooden boat building has been by marine engineers.
There are still places were traditional boats are being built the traditional way, with (mostly) traditional tools and without drawings.
Here is one of those places; Bjørkedalen in North West Norway, near Ålesund:
