For people that live in the Northeast US that aren’t sailing but want to renew radar - I did it in person at USMRC in Rhode Island.

There’s a theory test that’s 20 or 25 questions in addition to the plot. Review material they provide you is enough for the test and plot.

Plot is done by transferring range/bearing from computer screen to plotting sheet. I still like the booth better but the resolution on their screens is good so transferring isn’t difficult.

I had forgotten about them when I started my renewal process but glad I remembered them. The Fairhaven outfit was not working for me.

If you’re not sailing, you can let your radar observer lapse and restore it with the same course when you need to have the endorsement. There is no penalty in allowing it to lapse.

USMRC in Newport, Rhode Island is one of my favorite schools.

it was originally at LaGuardia Airport, and it was one of the first radar schools. It moved to Newport when it got the contract to provide radar training for the Naval War College.

Good point, I just wanted to get it all done at once while in renewal mode. Now I don’t need to think about for another 5-6 years.
