Hello,
I tried to search for this topic, but really had no luck…
I’m returning to sea and am submitting my paperwork to the coast guard for AB Limited. I have about 800 days of seatime, which is more than the 540 days that is required. I’m also looking ahead to the 1080 days to upgrade to AB Unlimited, and I want to know for sure how much seatime I have, exactly, according to the USCG.
What happens if I apply for AB Unlimited, but don’t have enough time?
I’m hoping it will automatically bump me to the next closest rating, AB Limited. Otherwise, is there a way to get an evaluation of my sea service, so I know how much time I have toward AB Unlimited?
Thanks,
Dan
Dan,
Here is the deal… you make the application for what you are trying to get. If you apply for A/B Unlimited and you are evaluated and declined they will change your status to “awaiting information” and you will receive a letter in a week or so stating the deficiencies in your application (you have xxx number of days and the requirement for Unlimited requires 1080 days, please provide the missing seatime) and explaining that you have X number of days to resolve the deficiencies or your application goes in the round file. Now, the best part is that in replying to the letter you can state that you would like to revise your application to A/B Limited, or special or whatever and send that in as your response. Make sure you sign that before mailing or emailing. This would accomplish getting an exact count of days of seatime they show, and also wouldn’t slow you down to much in the process of getting your A/B whatever ticket in hand.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for your advice, and answering my question completely. I’ll do it just as you suggested.
