I just received via E-mail my test. There are a lot of questions i can not answer. I need a 90% out of 50 questions. I thought the test would come with study materials and i would have to search for the right answer. I am off shore now and have no idea were to go to find these answers.
I don’t know how to search C.F.R. and would these questions be found in any other place?
Example of the questions:
You are anchoring in 16 fathoms of water. On a small to medium size vessel, which
statement is TRUE?
While you are on watch, you learn that a crewman has not been seen on board for the
past three hours. Which type of turn is best in this man-overboard situation?
Williamson turn maybe? I forget.
If i was you i’d order a thumbdrive from mariner advancement. I know you are offshore and that’s no help now, but that would be your best bet. Chances are most if not all those questions would be on that thumbdrive.
Chances are that all of the questions from the open book exams are actually on the internet. Google is your friend.
You are anchoring in 16 fathoms of water. On a small to medium size vessel, the __________. A) scope should always be at least ten times the depth of the water B) scope should always be less than 5 times the depth of the water > C) anchor should be lowered to within 2 fathoms of the bottom before being dropped D) anchor may be dropped from the hawsepipe
While you are on watch, you learn that a crewman has not been seen on board for the past three hours. Which type of turn is best in this man-overboard situation? > A) Scharnow B) Single turn of 180° C) Round D) Racetrack
I gave you a hint there with the italics. Neither of these questions will be answered by CFRs. But if you are an AB, you should know where to look for the answers. And I’m not advocating using the internet, but it is what it is.
Well, The thing is i got all my sea time from the navy working in CIC combat looking at radar. I have been working offshore as a dish washer/ janitor on the rigs. So yes i am a AB but i have never worked as one.
Just trying to better my self before i die. Age 40 btw.
