Power Outage on Norwegian Dawn; Next Sailing Cancelled (Updated: Sunday, November 29) A spokesperson from NCL has told Cruise Critic that it will be offering guests on the cancelled November 29 cruise a full refund and a 50 percent future cruise credit, based on the cruise fare paid. At this point, NCL is unable to confirm the cause of the power outage.
The Miami Herald reported on Friday that the 92,250-ton, 2,240-passenger ship lost power off the coast of Puerto Rico at around 9 a.m… During the outage, it is believed that there was no power at all and the Coast Guard was dispatched.
The paper says partial power was restored and Norwegian Dawn, which was on a nine-day Southern Caribbean cruise, was diverted to San Juan for repairs. It also reported that passengers will receive a 75 percent refund and 50 percent toward a future cruise with NCL. The company is also making travel arrangements for passengers to get back to Miami.
The ship had been due to arrive back in Miami on Sunday for its next five-day Western Caribbean cruise, but the cruise line has posted a notice on its Web site telling passengers that the sailing has now been cancelled and to contact the line directly.
Anyone who needs more information should call NCL on 800-327-7030. At this point, there is no word on any further cancellations to future Norwegian Dawn cruises.
