Please help with upgrade to 3rd mate unlimited

Yes, I see how those two regs read together authorize a tonnage limit v

That’s another good reason to simplify to the STCW scheme of: 500 GT, 3000 GT, and unlimited.

If they want to keep a 100 ton charterboat national license that probably wouldn’t do any harm.

Isn’t some percentage of seatime over 100 tons creditable toward an unlimited license?

All sea time for an unlimited license needs to be over 100 GRT and half the required time needs to be over 1,600 GRT.

All of it. Without a tonnage limit? Half has to be over 1600 GRT.

I could be wrong, just thought the 2M exams were required regardless.

For testing if you have previously held and tested for Mate 500 or Mate 1600, see the “Increase in Scope” notes on page 14.

There are no 2nd Mate exams. They were combined with 3rd Mate. The only time a test is given for 2nd Mate is if the applicant qualifies for 2nd Mate and did not previously test for Mate 500, Mate 1600, or 3rd Mate (e.g. with military sea service, or service under a foreign license).

But they cover up to 2M is what was meant by it….I’ll just shut up now.
