The Dayang Topaz

Broke an anchor wire (??) and drifted into the Baram B Platform offshore Sarawak:

Does anyone know if the DAYANG TOPAZ is still afloat? The articles aren’t clear on that.

According to this article it sank. https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2020/10/27/second-death-reported-from-sunken-ship-off-miri/

Thanks Chief!

There are other reports saying the ship did not sink which may be more accurate. https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2020/10/27/mmea-dayang-topaz-crewmen-safely-arrived-at-miri-port/1916826

In the words of Mark Twain - “The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

From Splash 24/7 today:

most likely anchoraged because the engines didnt work because they sold all the fuel…

Latest from gcaptain news today:

The report of her sinking was apparently exaggerated.

Being a maintenance vessel there were likely a large number of non-mariners on board that panicked and jumped overboard.

PS> Apparently they kept enough fuel on board to make it to Miri Anchorage:

Could someone explain how gemstones got so popular in naming offshore vessels?

Wives and daughter names are also popular. Maybe when they are consulted for a name, they think of a girl’s best friend…

lol, maybe towed back?
or
only 14 miles offshore, the captain went home for dinner and had the ignition keys in his pocket so they couldnt start the engines?
