They might have some sort of grace period where they will be A books for the OSG jobs only for a certain amount of years?
That doesn’t seem like much of a deal. I don’t imagine there’s a lot of PICs in MMP just waiting to jump on an OSG ship.
I mean anyone who was on the SLNC Pax (I think that’s the name) might actually be fuckin amped about this merger
lol all 6 of them?
Yeahhhh those dudes been waiting on a deal like this for ages. Finally a way off that piece of shit!
Probably going to put SLNC out of business if they have to pay a comparable wage to OSG ![]()
Any idea when it comes into effect?
Considering the announcement from the office said “We are considering our options mindful of our obligations under the law” I would say it’s going to be a while.
No idea what Pasha is paying mates. Current OSG rates. July 2024.

Full A Book membership in MM&P. No strings attached. This is in writing, asked many times different ways in the weekly QnA with OSG LDOs. They waived the initiation fees as well and they get a year no membership dues. This is permanent and will apply to all who are employed at the time of ratification.
SLNC just gave those guys about a 10% raise. If an OSG Mate is making $204k/year like "Cheng"writes, they are pretty close. Factor in the MMPs 7%(?) dues and they are almost even.
When MMP acquired TECO/UOS in 2012 they brought the junior officers in as CE (company employee) only. You were allowed to retain your permanent slot, but if you quit or got fired you were registered as an applicant. I think after X number of years (not sure how many) guys rolled in as A-Books.
There has to be a certain balance between book levels/ranks so as to not totally fuck the hiring system. Guys sitting on B-Books or C-Books waiting to advance with the necessary points and sea days to do so would throw a shit fit if they were suddenly reclassed behind Johnny Come Lately who already holds his cushy tanker gig (considering many members don’t have the PIC to just snag an OSG ship if they wanted one.)
So yeah, there’s gotta be some kind of “ease ‘em in” system figured out — but considering MMP’s leadership are complete morons, ya never know.
ATC’s vote went through back in January for the same deal. I’m sure it’s not going to be an overnight process.
This is how I imagine it has to go. Otherwise thats the most lopsided deal in history.
Are the deck officers all working 75/75? And do the 3rd Mates have to have Tanker experience to be hired or are they taking fresh 3rds?
They have hired non-pic holders as new 3M in the past out of desperation in certain cases. But it’s the exception and not the rule. Schedules at OSG are 75/75-ish.
That’s what the “Jr. 3rd Mate” billet on the SLNC tankers was for — to get them experience and time for the PIC. But for non-PIC holders I wonder if OSG will create a similar billet in the event they’re short?
No, I think it’s just the most lopsided deal in history.
Folks in the union are saying they bitched to leadership about this and the Sec Treasurer ended up basically saying “well we needed this, it is what it is.”
So basically… we wanted this so bad, we forgot all about you.
What else can one expect from union leadership.
