Or equivalent position in checklists

If you are going for a 200T master or a 500T master does holding a AB license count as the or equivalent position?

Example would be you get a 100T master then take a mate 200T upgrade class you never served as a mate or a master but you held the license

Same for master 500T. You get your 1400 days but never served as a mate you just held a mate at lower lv license and ab but never served as one.

I only ask as i plan my future out over the next 2 years and was reading cfr today

Equivalent position means the equivalent position aboard the vessel if the vessel lacks a formal position of that nature, like how some mates are called pilots.
