On September 11, a loaded feeder container truck crashed into the city of Willemsbrug on the Maas River in Rotterdam. Passing under the bridge, the ship caught a flight from below stacks of containers. According to preliminary data, the captain of the ship incorrectly assessed the height of the bridge or his cargo.
At the collision, five containers fell into the water, several more peppered on deck. Three containers were left floating in the river, moving to the Van Brenenoord Bridge. The other two, according to eyewitnesses, could have drowned. One container has already been found at the river bottom.
The vessel is currently detained for investigation and interrogation of the captain, and the bridge is checked for damage.
This is the second similar accident under the Willemsbrug bridge in a year. Only in March, another federne ship was stuck underneath.
