Shortly before 0300 this morning, the 80m general cargo vessel Framfjord impacted the Nordhordlandsbrua pontoon bridge. Nobody quite knows why, except that he sort of missed the main span and jammed her under the pontoon. The area is pretty bright this time of year, and the charts are unambiguous, so it’s a bit of a mystery to me.
There was extensive damage to the vessel superstructure, but at least the bridge appears to be OK.
EDIT: A neighbor who woke up from the bang confirms that it was bright enough to see the ship from his window. Also, police have “a solid theory” about what happened, but refuse to comment further, except to say that alcohol does not seem to have been a factor. All of this according to NRK.
