hi, im a first year student and on my way to a career at sea wondering if anyone has experience with diets on board as a crew member since i have celiac disease (gluten intolerance). Since gluten is in so much food, from bread to beer i was wondering how this would work on the ship, will a cook prepare special meals or would one just have to bite the dust and just eat the parts of the meal your not allergic to?
In my experience when it comes to Cooks on board if you are lucky enough to be on a vessel with a cook more than likely if you have a good repore they’ll be happy to fix you something special on the side. If not just avoid the foods that you know you’re allergic to. Also it doesn’t hurt to bring some protein powder and protein bars on board just in case a meal comes out you can’t eat.
