You missed the boat, its not a battery powered tug its a diesel electric with battery to support the full bollard pull when needed.
The saving is from only running the gen sets ( high speed low emission engines)required for the power demand instead of running 2 large medium speed engines at whatever speed.
Thats a fuel and emission saving for any vessel
The batteries can be charged when back on shore power as the preferred method.
The batteries are only added in when they want full bollard pull power which was like 5% of the operating window.
