Nobel Peace Prize for 2025

If the peace with Israel lasts over a year I’ll be surprised. The US agreed to sell 7 billion dollars of various missiles to Israel this year. Threatening to cut off the supply of those and then carrying thru with the threat would maybe speed things along but maybe not as Bibi ignores Trump for the most part. Then again the US MIC would howl if their sales fell off and they are big bribe payers to the politicians. My money is on this peace not lasting 90 days as Bibi needs to stay in power in order to delay the charges against him by his own government.

You seem to suggest Israel will break the agreement. What will they do?

Hamas, meanwhile and as usual, is free to commit more warcrimes without consequence?

Not Sure Saudi happy with anything other than getting Palestinians out of the middle east?

If one member of Hamas draws breath, Isreal is doomed to repeat a retaliatory future in Gaza. If they even flinch on any part of this deal, Israel should go into Qatar and show their leadership the 72 virgins and I hope they do it with US made weapons. Had this been an attack on a music festival in upstate NY some of you may see it differently but Oct 07 was a practice run for what’s to come.

The Nobel carries about as much validity as an Emmy. Obama got one for what? Nuclear proliferation, climate change and tolerance of all peoples. He got it in 2009 while he was loved by all, even though 62% of American adults polled he was not deserving of it. Nobel should have stuck with making bombs to blow things up. Way more useful to the world.

Trump could cure cancer and you people would argue he is putting oncologists out of work. If they award it to Trump, he should give it back.

Did I hear Trump say he will only accept it if they remove it from Obama, ( cant actually remember why he got one, anyone?)

He got one to condemn Bush’s war in the Middle East. No other reason.

yet he dropped lots of bombs and killed people and groups with drones

When Machado goes to collect her Nobel Prize, I hope she doesn’t leave Venezuela in a small boat…

That might be interesting after Trump’s executive order on Sept. 29 entitled “Ensuring the Security of the State of Qatar.” President Trump has signed an executive order saying that any armed attack against Qatar would be considered “a threat to the peace and security of the United States.”

The 400 million dollar gift to Trump is paying off for Qatar. Meanwhile taxpayers are paying for said jet to be refurbished. The jet goes to the Trump “presidential library” when he leaves office in order to fly librarians around I guess.

In case you missed it:

The question of her security and whether she will be able to be present in Oslo on the 10th of Dec. for the award ceremony, was raised in the Q&A session after the announcement.
She is in Venezuela, but in hiding from the brutal Maduro regime. Maduro is not known for his tolerance of opposition, so that is left to be seen.

The award ceremony in Oslo is a grand affair that attract worldwide attention:

PS> There have been several cases of the prize winner being unable to attend in person. In such cases either a relative or someone nominated by the prize winner may collect the medal and prize money on his/her behalf.

The BBC News report on the award of the Nobel Peace Price to Maria Corina Machado, including video of the telephone call she received a few minutes before the announcement was made:

Her reaction:

The comment from the White House:
A White House official responded by saying the “Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace”.

Note: Nominations for next year’s award close 31.January, 2026.

PS> She also won the " Sakharov Prize for the Freedom of Thought" in 2024:

Blimey,

Watching UK news tonight.

A Palestinian doctor speaking.

Simply hatred.

Makes me wonder if this conflict can ever end.

Norwegians worry about backlash as Trump misses out on Nobel Prize

I think it was the “Integrity” requirement that sunk him. He has none. That and attacking the two orgs that have a say in the voting.

If he manages to bring peace to Gaza and Ukraine before they could do so for themselves, and he was given a Peace Prize for it, I would say “well done and well earned.” I’d still consider him the worst president in American history so far, but if he brings peace and gets a peace prize for it, well, credit where it’s due.

Which “two orgs” do you think has a say in the voting?

AFAIK there are only ONE organization that decides who gets the prize:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee. Five people that meet regularly to go though the merits of the nominated candidates (328 this year), after the staff has collected reams of info on them.

While the list of nominees are public knowledge nobody, outside the committee and staff, are supposed to know who are shortlisted, although there are lots of guessing, incl. by betting syndicates.

They decide by requesting reports from a number of organizations. The International Crisis Group and the The International Committee of the Red Cross for starters.

The Secretariat request reports and info from all kinds of organisations for the committee to consider.

BTW; Those two organisations are nominated and seen as likely candidates regularly.

If you want to know even more about the selection process, here is a BBC article that give a lot of details:
