NMC Credentialing Delays

Wait, the REC took two weeks to acknowledge that they had received it after you handed it directly to them?! What the actual f*%# man?!?!

And I thought REC Houston used to be bad…

The LB REC by reputation has always been slow. I usually would email my apps to other RECs. I chose to walk it in this time because i felt the need to face to face discussion about some things, make sure i filled out everything correctly. Paranoia I guess.

This go around i did think the two weeks to acknowledge were a bit odd, but i figured fourth of july being during the work week after i was there caused the delay.

a friend of mine said some people are experiencing delays with med cards. And waiting for them several weeks longer than usual. Anyone experiencing this at the moment ?

I sent my app for my medical card in on the 6th of August and have only got an email saying they received the email. I think the last time I had it back by now.

My renewal was emailed to REC BOS 7/7, I still hadn’t heard anything from them on 7/17 nmc was less than helpful so I called the REC direct and to my surprise someone called me back and verified that they didn’t have my email in their Inbox, I know that my original email was correct because I re sent the same one and it actually made it too there inbox. I finally got an application number from the REC on 7/27 they forwarded it to the nmc and after a couple weeks the nmc notified me that it had been received and since 8/7 I have been waiting for it to start SEC.

I sure am glad that I applied 8 months to the day from my current expiration. Secondly, good thing I was able to get ahold of someone at BOS who was helpful, for the life of I cannot figure out why there email system one give you a delivery receipt like every other website on the internet or why it would except the exact same email from me one time but not the other?

The sad thing is 30 years ago it took 2 hours in a REC to get your Coast Guard Documents. Now days 60+ days. This is not progress. And I am almost certain that this has a direct effect on why my union has a shortage of 2000 Able Bodied Seaman. Along with low wage contracts.

The USCG NMC failure to timely produce seamen’s documents is contributing to the “shortage” of Mariners, and putting upward pressure on wages.

An entry level MMC endorsed OS Wiper FH now has move value than ever.

A “shortage” of Mariners should result in higher wages with better contracts.

The failure of the maritime unions to negotiate better contracts with higher wages during a labor “shortage” reflects the utter incompetence and corruption of union officials.

A rising tide lifts all boats. When union wages go up, nonunion wages go up. When non-union wages go up, union wages should go up.

In the last 20 years the USCG has done a lot of things that should as a consequence reduce the supply of qualified mariners with the correct documents in hand, and raise Mariner’s wages. The unions haven’t done shit to raise wages.

Trust me I am also blaming the Unions. Their lack of good leadership in negotiating contracts and communication with politicians on slow response from the NMC to produce documents in a timely manner. They have failed big time!

To reduce the supply, or alleviate the shortage? Not clear when read in context.

I’ve had a credential approved to print for almost two weeks now, but still not printed/mailed. Anyone know what the hold up might be? NMC chat was unhelpful at best.

Two weeks at NMC is like 5 minutes in the private sector.

The affirmative action hires at NMC are busy looking for better federal jobs that appear to be more interesting.

I emailed my renewal app the 16th. Haven’t received an acknowledgment or anything. I’ve put in two chat requests online, heard nothing back. I’m hoping the 6 months i have left is enough cushion.
