Hello!

pillow laundry bag T-shirts; white-crew (10 or more)
pillowcase, white laundry detergent underwear (10 or more)
shoe polish (black wax) blue jeans (2 pair) towels, white (2)
brass polish shower shoes toilet articles
matches, one book running shoes (cross country or training)
clothes hangers (12 or more) ball point pens, black white gym socks (10 or more) combination lock writing paper/stamps clothes/lint brush
rags & cleaning items sewing kit black socks (6 pairs or more)
FLAT sheets, 2 white (66” x 96”) fan (Not to exceed 20”) all-purpose cleaner
broom, dustpan, mop, bucket black permanent markers (3)
YES. When it comes to your training, assume that nothing you are told is B.S.! You only get to call B.S. on things when you a wise old salt with wrinkles, scars, and more salt in your veins than there is salt in the ocean. If they tell you to bring it, BRING IT. Or else…

ALSO, while we’re on the subject, try to avoid stupid questions, at least at the outset. In some senses there is no such thing as a stupid question, but in your position when you’re just a miserable little puke just barely getting your feet wet, almost everything you say will be assumed to be stupid, like your question here for example.

If you need a flashlight get a pelican. One guy had this huge flashlight and we were at dress right for half an hour with our lights in our hands. You want to have everything average. Oh and get name brand brasso.
edit: mop and bucket? Where did you apply?
You want to have everything average.
you clearly didn’t go where I went, b/c i was told every day for 4 yrs how much larger than average i was and that it would make me a better leader, not necessarily a better mariner. first ship i got on the lowly hawsepiper capt i worked for whipped his out his 2 foot long dong and told me that was average for hawsepipers. then he calmy stirred his scalding hot coffee with it before walking off the bridge.

that’s why i’m such an angry, old alumni now. i was lied to for 4 yrs and then they sent me out to the real world.

is that why you are filling in for him tonight?

That has got to be the worst list I have ever seen put together for shipping out, unless of course you are going on the training ship and aspire to be the 12 bar head dick of the regiment.

My general list is as follows, this is just a place to start

7 work shirts
7 pairs underoos
10 pairs of socks (though you can never have too many socks)
one pair waterproof steel toe boots (insulated or non depending on climate)
Shower sandals
comfortable walking shoes
two towels
toiletries (place in ziplock bags while traveling so if something bursts it doesnt get your clothes)
Computer/ipad/whatever
Extra phone charger

Tools:
Good waterproof flashlight, pelican is hard to beat. I have one of the rechargable ones that fits on a cradle. Slide it on every night, always charged.
Two good folding work knives
Sunglasses, good ones
leatherman
one or two pairs of work gloves

Thats just a pretty basic list, it can vary a lot depending on what you are working on and where you are going.

HA! Fat chance! That was all too lovey-dovey to come anywhere near C.Captain! I was trying to give the kid a break before the sharks got to him!

Doesn’t the academy supply that?? If not, don’t show up with anything!

The guys on here are gonna give you bs answers. The unfortunate thing is yea pretty much everything you listed you’ll need for indoc. You can skip a thing or two and it shouldn’t be a problem. Like you don’t really need a fan. Or you can always borrow one if your friends shoe polish. Or sewing kits. Otherwise get all that stuff. Especially brasso.

A big-titted blonde, case of beer, fat stack of cash…the rest you can barter for.

I have an question about the major.

I want to save money and not running into heavy debt, which is one better fit for my situation?
Engineering Intern Option or Engine license?

Be an engine license student, if you don’t like marine engineering you can always drop back to non license. It’s engineering, if your half way decent at it you won’t really have to worry too much about debt. For the record I’m not an engineer, I just know there’s always demand for great engineers.

How good are your math skills?

If you scored less than 650 Math SAT. You will struggle with the Engineering coursework. Even if you scored in the 700’s, it no cakewalk.

Comrade, I do not think they take SAT score at state maritime academy in Glorious Mother Russia.

Mother Russia?

Never mind…

Just lookin’ at the interesting organization of words from our OP, not sure he’s getting ready to ship out on the ole’ Golden Bear or the Empire State, I’m thinking something more along the lines of the “Cедов” or the “Крузенштерн”

I just finished indoc over the summer. While you need most of the stuff, there are a few things you don’t need.

pillow laundry bag T-shirts; white-crew (10 or more)
pillowcase, white laundry detergent underwear (10 or more)
shoe polish (black wax) blue jeans (2 pair) towels, white (2)
brass polish shower shoes toilet articles
matches, one book running shoes (cross country or training)
clothes hangers (12 or more) ball point pens, black white gym socks (10 or more) combination lock writing paper/stamps clothes/lint brush
rags & cleaning items sewing kit black socks (6 pairs or more)
FLAT sheets, 2 white (66” x 96”) fan (Not to exceed 20”) all-purpose cleaner
broom, dustpan, mop, bucket black permanent markers (3)

At our indoc, we were given the sheets, but I can’t guarantee they will do this again, so I would bring your own just in case.
Bring shoe polish. bring 2 tins of the polish, and if you are able to get the “parade gloss”, I would recommend it.
I would suggest bringing three towels, so that you always have a dry one.
Bring matches, and a small lighter. Also, bring 4 quarters and about 4 pennies (or more).
If you are doing indoc in the summer, BRING A FAN.
Off the top of my head, I don’t remember anything else.

Also, we were given the option to purchase a sea-chest full of everything that we would need. If you choose not to get the full package,
I would still recommend getting the sea-chest by itself, because it is good to have, and good quality.
