Multiple Choice on License Exam

Surprised to see questions with “Multiple Choice” answer used in examination/test for maritime license.

I can only remember this from when training to serve as Coxswain on MTBs, when doing my National Service in the Royal Norwegian Navy (1965-66).

PS: After retiring (2016) I have done some stints as exam-watch at the local Maritime School here in Ålesund. DEFFINATLY NO “Multiple Choice” there.
Question issued digitally and MOSTLY answered the same way.
As Exam-watch we checked that there were no communication tools, or any “illegal” websites open on their computers, both before and during the examination session.

“Multiple Guess” is very much a US “thing” - from cradle to graduate and beyond, and the “most correct” choice can sometimes be over-simplified/ambiguous/wrong.
On IMO 1.27 ECDIS course in FL (in 2014) we received the full question/“multiple guess” answer bank - 99 in total - for revision the day before the final test.
I queried some “no correct answer” problems. In particular, one on the GPS system (as someone involved in GPS since 1984!). Was told correct answer is (C) “GPS is a LEO sat system”.
I pointed out the error - and was told that was the official USCG answer and if I wanted to change it I should get citizenship, then take it up with my Congressman!
End of course, leaving the room after exam pass and award of certs, I said nothing…
… but papered the class with copies of the relevant GPS.gov page.
"Never argue with a fool… "

GPS missed LEO by about 12,000 miles!
