If you’re worried about OPSEC you should head on over to the almost-official MSC Facebook page (MSC 101?) that’s littered with coronavirus talk and ships and infections. They let that shit flow over there. Of course you can’t discuss links to media reporting of ‘gangway up’ but you can read all about the rest of the slobber.
Your post made my day and of course this one as well:

Lovely bunch of folks.
Also found this on there:
Was Just told gangway up order stands until vaccine is out
Holy hell
Please no. If this holds true we might never find reliefs unless they start paying us for restriction. Could you elaborate on your sources?
That could be the twelfth of never (Ebola took five years and the usual non-crash-program time is ten years; and some we’ve failed completely), though I understand they have high hopes of having something in 2-3 years** and 18 months from receipt of viral specimens in January is still on the table.
**Dr. Fauci’s testimony in Congress.
Look on the bright side: all those homesteading fuckers who lockdown the good ships will have to choose between their cash cow and liberty.
As Brer Rabbit said “Please don’t throw me in the briar patch”. Cha Ching.
The reply from COMSC to the union complaint is out. The complaint is denied. No liberty is granted. No additional pay is permitted. This applies to MSC and contract ships.
It’s now heading to arbitration.
United We Jail!
No surprise here.
Are you affiliated? Call up your rep and make your voice heard.
My condolences to CIVMARS/CONMARS. I retired in 2018, and my last ship was CONMAR.
If I was still working, I’d be going postal over this. It is beyond my comprehension that USN personnel can come & go, but MSC cannot. Equally unfathomable is MSC’s decision [and associated unions - AMO/MMP/SIU etc] - to not fund a sizable “restriction-to-ship” pay.
I’m glad I’m out of this nonsense. Best wishes to all you guys still in the game!!
I’m affiliated. I’ve paid dues for two decades. I just made my voice heard here and will continue to do so elsewhere.
I agree. Call your rep. Do you know who your rep is? A hell of a lot more is going on than what is outlined in the response from the Admiral. A huge role of the grievance was to create leverage on MSC to get them to start thinking about lifting the gangway up order. The continued pressure by still moving ahead with litigation on this grievance will continue to keep pressure on them to consider lifting the liberty restriction.
Who is running the government side of MMP nowadays. The last I remember was Randy Cizewski (possibly wrong name). I’m offshore Group and keep my VP and Treasurer in the Rolodex if I want to bring something up.
Keep up the fight and let them know what You want bargained for. Freedom over money.
Yep, still Randi.
Sounds about right. Gangway up until vaccine is out!
So let’s do some basic math…
MSC GOGO has around 4,600 afloat billets.
Let’s say each billet gets relieved an average of once in six months.
4600 / 6 = 766 reliefs a month
//
A ‘bubble’ (the pre-assignment confinement) lasts a half month.
Currently the EPF (JHSV) are used as bubble ships.
Currently an EPF holds 35 people per bubble at safe social distancing.
766 / (35 * 2) = 10.94 EPFs
Currently there are eleven EPFs.
Therefore if all existing EPFs turns into a bubble ship, filled to full social distancing, every month, a CIVMAR can be relieved every six months. This does not count 107s, quits or suicides which delay reliefs further.
//
There a currently two EPF bubble ships. That means 140 CIVMARS can be relieved each month.
4600 / 35 * 2 * 2 = 32.8 months per relief
That means at the current bubble rate a tour will last 32.8 months. Almost three years before someone could step ashore or see their families.
(Will @ombugge come to our defense? )
Those numbers look pretty awful and I would be going bat shit crazy if I were looking at that as a reality. For those of us on the fringes of MSC “proper” this is just another situation that confirms MSC is totally #ucked. But don’t worry the Admiral will be gone in a year and someone else can step into the breach
