There seems to be community transfer onboard USS Mount Whitney in Gaeta, Italy. That’s what the guys onboard are saying. There was a confirmed case a few days ago. Now even the CO (USN O-6) isn’t onboard anymore.
It has a hybrid crew. Part USN and part MSC. They only locked down the MSC crew but permitted the USN to come and go as they pleased (within the rules of the host nation lockdown).
Great job Big Navy! Let the USN go home to their families at night, go shopping and whatever, then go back to the ship to infect the older MSC crew. Hope you all don’t end up killing any of my friends.

Oh man… And the quarantine within the ranks of Active duty is nothing short of horrid at the moment.

I heard CSU-West was closed with CIVMARS having to check into CSU-East. Any truth to that? That’s going to be a culture shock to guys that have pooled on the Left Coast since the shotgun marriage between LANT and PAC. Because of CV-19 don’t be surprised if this is indefinite if and when the virus is tamed. MSC would like nothing better than to just have one CIVMAR pool. Scary.

CSU west was closed because a CIVMAR with covid went through there. I don’t think your presumption is accurate at all.

Today marks day 30 of the MSC fleet wide “gangway up” order. I don’t know how it’s going in other places, but on DG the Navy ashore is still pretty much business as usual with social distancing and masks. DG is a COVID free island with little or no personnel movement off or on the island, the ships crews still have no liberty.

“Well ya know those warfighters are more deserving and thus they can do whatever. Mariners are just boat trash and they make too much money anyways! Plus they eat like kings. I heard they order lobster and steak on government money for every meal. Fuck em.“
Above are a collection of direct quotes from US military members about mariners, heard within earshot of me.

I have run a MWR program, in addition to my real job, for a few years and have become very close with a bunch of active duty. It is funny the misconceptions they unleash after a few drinks among friends.

A “Friend” recently went to Guam about a month ago for MSC. Quarantined for 2 weeks before boarding the vessel while in Guam. Have heard no reports, info of how the virus thing is doing with them, appears MSC is trying to get ahead of this thing. We will see.
Are you a crew member of a Sealift, Inc. prepositioned ship near Diego Garcia?
No, I have been retired for quite some time. Have not cut off contact with my maritime friends and family.
Sorry. I was asking Hawspiper5.
A “friend” left an East coast port to go to Guam for MSC as a 3rd or 2nd Egr about a month ago. He had a connection through Seattle and had to quarantine there before flying to Guam. He is now in Guam and quarantining near or on the dock in tents. I’m sure Guam is stretched pretty tight with the sailors from the Roosevelt. Navy booked as many rooms on shore as they could to quarantine those fellows. Guam ain’t that big, nor are the hospital facilities and lodging. Hope our friend and sailors are gonna be ok. And that he has a nice tent.

Sweet. What’s the latest?
Any idea when the “gangway up” order will be lifted?

IDK but…
MORE THAN HALF THE CREW OF USNS LEROY GRUMMAN TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
and
Five MSC ships have now become infected with the Covid-19 virus.
and
The Roosevelt was all set to sail from Guam after re-embarking the entire crew after all test negative,
5 crew member come up positive. They think tests were not reliable.
So all that probably doesn’t help.

Kind of makes me think that quarantining on the ship isn’t such a great idea.
