When I worked there they would always claim lack of knowing the laws and blame vessel crews for the condition of their equipment even though money was being deferred through the engineering department to fund other “interests.” Hard to believe when the majority shareholder was an attorney.
Since forever shipping companies have been a refuge for money launderers.
