Mates Needed - Free trip to Iceland!

This just in from SUNY Maritime:

The college needs officers, instructors and other help from alumni on the EMPIRE STATE this summer. Attached is a message with details from Aaron Rowen '05, a grad and faculty member. Those who have taken advantage of this opportunity in the past have described their experiences in glowing terms. One hand!

Fraternally,

Dick Bracken
President, FSMAA

Capt. Bracken;

In follow-up to our conversation yesterday, here is some info on this summer’s cruise. If you could blast it out to some of your people, with me and Dick Burke as the on-campus contacts, we feel that we will be able to eliminate that group of officers who are interested in going, but never hear back from the school.

Dates:
Pre-cruise begins: May 4th
Depart Ft. Schuyler: May 18th
Arrive Ft. Schuyler: July 10th
Post-cruise ends: July 12th

Ports:
San Miguel, Azores
Gibraltar
Reykjavik, Iceland
Kiel, Germany (in time for canal fest!)

Billets:
The majority of the billets still available are Instructor’s positions, but if someone is interested in something else, they should call anyway! Discharges are available to instructors, although officers with expired licenses are useful too.

Left Ft. Schuyler on Monday and then wandered around Montalk Point until yesterday until email was functional…off to the Azores, Gibralter, around Iceland to cross the Arctic Circle and then through the Kiel Canal for Kiel fest and back home.

Empire State VI was built in 1962 - anyone out there still sailing that vintage ship?

John, Appreciate the tweet, but the cadets won’t get it - their email is down until the Azores where they hope to get it fixed. Nothing like reverting back to the good old days on a 1962-era ship and systems to match to get you ready for the 21st Century maritime life!

Well be it the school departing without testing the systems, the officers not caring about cadet moral or the ship still running like day she was born… it’s good to know not much has changed since my days at the dome

Fair winds and following seas to the TSES!
