Has anyone taken any courses through Marinerskills.com? Looking at taking their online Tankship DL course. They are ABS approved and this course is also USCG approved. I have taken an in-person PIC course previously, but haven’t sailed on tankers in quite a while, so need to re-take. The ability to do it online is quite appealing.
I am curious what you find I’m thinking of taking the same course.
I attempted to take one of their online courses. It was horrible, irrelevant, AI written nonsense. Everything written was poor, non native English grammar and spelling. They must have stolen it from some foreign flag state training program.
They assign a guy that is supposed to be available for video chats to answer any questions. My guy was a jerk, who was not only rude in his emails, he was also never available.
I ended up disputing the tuition charge with Amex and never heard from them again, they must be used to it.
Doesn’t sound very promising. I have similar issues with most of these online courses - They try to pack out the hours by just repeating the same content over and over, most of which seems to be cut and paste form somewhere else. I guess the real questing is; did you get a useable certificate?
Did not make it far enough to get a certificate.
I complained to the salesperson type who told me that the owner was not going to respond to any of my complaints.
So I downloaded all the course exams I could and made a dispute with American Express. They immediately refunded me.
I am not sure when they locked me out. I didn’t care. I posted their exams on reddit.
I should think the USCG would have a ‘profitable’ discussion with them if you wrote them?
One of my crew members attempted the DDE course with them. There were a multitude of connectivity issues and a lack of meaningful support. He eventually got a full refund. This was 2024, and I would not recommend them to anyone.
So far sounds like they aren’t worth the hassle. Too bad…
