Hi all! I am a maritime lawyer currently completing my dissertation for a MSc in Shipping.
The topic of my study is “wake damage” law in the United States. Wake damage is rare, but it does happen, and I had to deal with a wake damage issue when doing claims for a Greek owner. The US law governing wake damage is unique and has different principles to “ordinary” collision damage.
I would love it if any captains, deck officers or pilots could fill out my survey on wake damage. I am trying to measure how “exposed” vessels are based on the ‘on board’ policies of the deck. Some of the questions are obvious requirements of COLREGS or other international regulations, but other questions are more obscure and the answers will be important.
