KP is losing one of their training vessels

Just ran across this on the GSA auctions website.

Of course, these all are wooden hulls but reading the description, it appears the Academy has kept the vessel well maintained.

Always thought these were attractive vessels and that one would make for a great live aboard.

She looks like a good boat handling practice platform. I hope they are not giving up that opportunity.

Interior is completely gutted except for the galley and engine room. It’d take a lot of work to get her up and running in good shape again. I don’t even know the last time they took her out.

Looks exactly like the YPs at Annapolis…

There’s at least one in active duty in the Bremerton/Seattle area for patrols and whatnot. There was one called the “Liberty Bay” if I remember correctly, that escorted us as we towed a small barge of whatnot down the coast to the Columbia River.

That’s because it is.

She was YP-679. The boat was a mess when they got it from Annapolis. The KP waterfront folks (and midshipmen) put a lot into it to get it useable for training. They’re great platforms for learning small vessel operations and basics of twin-screw boathandling.

c.captain had several posts on this forum about the vessel Dauntless that he had purchased. Don’t recall if it was a YP or not,

Edit: YP-697
