We tend not to follow the rules anyway for some odd reason. As I mentioned, we have people sailing without BST even, and I don’t know how this is allowed either. I have had to pay for all of my own STCW stuff thus far (not that I mind).

I did drive to San Diego for my BST though, would be willing to do it again for this if needed.
