Join mm&p?

I’m debating on joining mm&p. I’d like to hear from you guys to see how things are in there.

im near Boston. Got a 1600ton near coastal mate, with TOAR.

How likely is it that I’ll land a mates jobs? Is it worth it? I’m having a difficult time finding work…

MMP offshore has 150 rotary jobs nation wide. Good luck.

Doubt they have any limited tonnage jobs. Wouldn’t bother

All Dunlap masters and mates are MMP plus it looks like Reinauer and Moran are about to go the same way if the 333 thing pans out. I’m not up to snuff on that gossip these days though so that whole thing could have fallen through by now and I wouldn’t know it.

That would be the mmp “Atlantic” division. As discussed in a few other threads you can’t seem to move between the divisions.

Well you sort of can. You won’t keep any seniority but anyone with an unlimited license can join the offshore div.

My understanding is that the inland divisions hire through the companies. Once you get hired you join. Seems like they give you a list of companies. I’d just give them a call and see what they say.

As far as transferring, I went from Inland to Government to Offshore. How much seniority you have depends on the rules in force at the time as they change from time to time.

LMS out of Mobile has limited tonnage ITB’s. MMP Offshore division. Pay is a little low, but it is a day for day paid vacation job. Sue Bourque at the MMP New Orleans hall usually has the jobs posted there.

What is a little low?

I’m not going to say on a public forum.

I certainly understand if you would rather not say. No problem.

However, mariner wages under union contracts are hardly a secret, and they certainly should not be a secret. I’d think that MMP, MEBA, and SIU would be so proud of the great deals they have negotiated for their members that they would want everyone to know all about it. Otherwise, how can us nonunion mariners become jealous and anxious to join the union?

and what’s stopping you from going down to the nearest hall and finding out for yourself?

I cannot seem to find the MMP hall in Dutch Harbor. I even asked for directions at the Norwegian Rat Saloon, but to no avail. Do you have the address?

Hey, its only a two day $2000 plane ride round trip.

Also, I suspect that the MMP Juneau “hall” is only for the Inland Division guys working on the Alaska State Ferries.

MMP does have a website, you know. Plenty of contact info there.

That’s how it was when I shipped from the San Francisco hall during the late 90’s. I’d make the 0900 job call on the SUP deck and if I struck out, I’d hit the Embarcadero afterwards and bang on the door down at BayDelta.
It was a good life for me.
